Show moreAntoine d’Orléans, Duke of Montpensier was the youngest son of King Louis-Philippe of France (1773-1850). In 1845 he traveled on a diplomatic mission to the Maghreb and the Levant in the company of his friend, the French writer Antoine de Latour (1808-1881). The Duke of Montpensier and de Latour traveled on board the vessel "Gomer", where André Louis de Sinety served as a lieutenant and naval artist to the mission. After their return, de Latour published a book about their voyage that came with the Atlas, illustrated with the drawings by de Sinety.
