Show moreThis map by Jan Huygen van Linschoten is representative of different school of cartpgraphy dating from the end of the 16th century. He used details brought back by numerous voyagers to compile information on the entire region. The shape of the Arabian Peninsula, including the whole of Arabia, is far more accurate than of earlier maps. Julfaf (now called Ras al Khaimah) is indicated for the first time. The arrowhead-shaped Qatar peninsula, called catura, can be clearly distinguished. It is located in the midst of an oyster-bed represented by small pearl-dots. [Jan Huygen van Linschoten, Henricus F. ab Langren]. Relief shown pictorially. From the author's Itinerario, voyage ofte schipvaert van Jan Huygen van Linschoten naer Oost ofte Portugaels Indien.
