Show moreThis collection gathers vintage original gelatin silver prints of historical monuments of Morocco, especially mosques and palaces, of the cities of Rabat, Fez, Meknes and Marrakesh. Between 1915 and 1917, together with his colleague Jean Rhoné, Lucine Vogel was enrolled as a photographer in the French Army and commissioned by the Directorate of Antiquities and Historical Monuments to create a photographic inventory of historical sites in the most important cities of Morocco. His photographic works was much more than another example of an administrative survey. As a professional graphic and image editor, his pictures are characterised by a noteworthy study of the composition between men and architecture as well as by an architectural accurate balance. His photographs were published in 1921 in Les monuments mauresques du Maroc, the major reference compendium of historical Moroccan architectures by Jean de la Nézière, featuring an introduction by General Lyautey himself. Vogel also illustrated the two volume work, Le Jardin et la maison arabe au Maroc, published in 1926 by Albert et Lévy. Bab Dekaken et tours du vieux Méchouar. ; Medersa Bounania.
