Show moreAnne-Margaretta Burr, also known as Margaretta Higford Burr) was a British painter. The daughter of the Royal Navy Captain Edward Scobell (1783–1825), she traveled to Spain, Italy, Sicily, and the East. published Sketches in Spain, The Holy Land, Egypt, Turkey, and Greece in 1841. In 1844 she was in Cairo with her husband, the British Member of Parliament Daniel Higford Davall Burr (1811–1885), and subsequently visited Syria, Jerusalem, and Constantinople. She also accompanied the renowned English politician, archaeologist, and cuneiformist Austen Henry Layard (1817–1894) in his travels in Egypt and Turkey. She mainly composed watercolors. Her watercolors were done in vivid colors and great detail, especially costumes and architectural features.
