Documents are related to French and international interests in Bahrain, Iraq, Arabian Gulf, Syria and Lebanon. Some documents are carbon duplicates, some signed or revised by hand. The collection comprises two smaller hand–drawn coloured maps of the Arabian Gulf, showing Bahrain and Qatar with the “Pirate Coast”. Show moreAutograph letter from Thomas Edward Lawrence addressed to "Arm Staff Sergt. F.J. Seaton, A.O. Corps, c/o O.C. Troops, Rabegh, Arabia". The letter was written shortly after his return from Arabia. After having expressed his condolences to Seaton for the loss of his son, Lawrence lists the successful achievements in Aqaba and in the Hejaz and gives news of their old fellows and mentions that the King of Hejaz [Hussein bin Ali, King of Hejaz and Sharif of Mecca from 1916 to 1924] wants to give a medal to all the officers who served in the Arab Army, including the recipient. The author closes the letter with a striking sentence “[] Some day [sic] that little business in Arabia will be famous.". The letter comes with the original envelope. Show moreReport surveying the state of the railroads and the gauges used by the Iraqi State Railways and the Trans-Iranian Railway between 1942 and 1944. The report is incomplete; 11 pages are related to Iraq (p. 54-85), while 16 pages cover Iran (p. 73-160). The typewritten text is accompanied by photomechanical prints and technical drawings of locomotives. The report might have been produced both by the British or the American intelligence. A map of Turkey produced by the British War Office in 1939 is included; railroads and possessions of the same are outlined in pencil. Title and date devised by Library staff.
