This volume was written after Washington Irvings visit to Alhambra in Granada, Spain in 1829 and is an account of the authors observations of the palace and fortress complex. Divided into chapters, the book offers an insightful consideration of Alhambras courts, gardens and legends. The book begins with Irvings observations, thoughts and feelings concerning the varied landscapes and scenery of Spain, and the occupations and manners of the people he encountered on his journey. Other chapters focus on the setting, architecture, and natural surroundings of the palace, including detailed descriptions of the views to be obtained from various structures, such as balconies and towers. Irving also includes a number of legends and stories which characterise Spanish culture. The book concludes with the authors farewell to Granada.
