Charles Lallemand was a French writer who was active with his friend Ludvico Hart, an accomplished photographer. Both of them travelled to Egypt and Syria, taking collodion photographs for an illustrated book. Their offices were based in Strasbourg and they had A. Varroquier as their representative in ParisThis work is from a series of photographic books they intended to publish calling it “Galerie Universelle des Peuples”. The photographically illustrated publication encompassed European countries, such as Suisse and Alsace, as well as Middle Eastern ones, in particularly Syria and Lebanon. It seems that this is the only volume that was published from the series.
