<note>The rare first edition of one of the most beautiful books on horses, the present copy being the only one in contemporary colour to appear on the market since 1975 (according to ABPC). "Un des plus beaux ouvrages qui aient paru en France sur le cheval" (Mennessier de la Lance). An outstanding collectors item by virtue of the paper, composition, and the beautiful engravings by Parrocel. The engravings in charming colour show horsemen, bridles, saddles, horseshoes, the horses skeleton, etc. Differing collations provided by various bibliographies are due to the fact that the illustration "Allures naturelles", here a double plate, is usually divided into two parts. Slightly browned, with occasional dampstaining. Margins and corners occasionally reinforced.</note>

<note>Illustrations: Added engraved title-page; 23 engraved plates; 3 large engraved equestrian head-pieces; engraved arms of Prince Charles de Lorraine heading dedication; engraved tail-piece; woodcut initials. Engravings by Laurent Cars, Jacques-Philippe Le Bas, Nicolas-Dauphin de Beauvais, Jean Audran, Nicolas Henri Tardieu and others after Charles Parrocel.</note>
