Collection of four portraits of children in ceremonial robes. The first one is described as Muhammad 'Abd al-'Aziz, son of Amir Awn al Rafiq - Grand Sharif of Mecca between 1882 and 1905 - and three of his nephews. The photographs were probably taken in Mecca in 1885. The child in the bottom-left picture can be identified - as per Snouck Hurgronje Papers at the Leiden University Libraries - as Abdullah bin Al-Hussein, later King of Jordan. The negatives had handwork applied: the original backgrounds have been substituted completely except for the carpet in the upper-right photograph.
