Show moreAntoine d’Orléans, Duke of Montpensier was the youngest son of King Louis-Philippe of France (1773-1850). In 1845 he traveled on a diplomatic mission to the Maghreb and the Levant in the company of his friend, the French writer Antoine de Latour (1808-1881). The Duke of Montpensier and de Latour traveled on board the vessel "Gomer", where André Louis de Sinety served as a lieutenant and naval artist to the mission. After their return, de Latour published a book about their voyage that came with the Atlas, illustrated with the drawings by de Sinety. The plates depict views in Tunis (2), Carthage (2), Cairo (3), Suez, Siout, Assouan, Philae, Luxor, the Pyramids, Damietta, Constantinople (3), Broussa (4), Sunium, Corinth, Eurotas, Sparta, Mistra, Taygetus, Mount Ithome, Messenia, Cryssa and Delphes. dessiné par M. de Sinety, Lieutenant de Vaisseau, Commandant en Second du Comer. ; lithographié par Mrs. Bayot, Dauzats, Guiaud, Mayer et Sabatier.
