The map shows major settlements, caravan routes, oases, etc. Much of the interior of Arabia remains somewhat fanciful but more accurate detail is beginning to emerge door Eman. Bowen verbeterd door W.A. Bachiene ; J.van Jagen sculps. "Hedend Oostersche Hist 1e deel bladz 1 N.3." The map covers 21°-61°E. 13°-42°N. Arabian peninsula is divided into several regions. Negd, Chaulan, Yemen of Gelukkig Arabien, Hadramut, Seger, Oman, Bahara, route from Bassora to Jedda (Jeddah) and Mecca and from Bassra to Medina and from Baghdad to Medina are traced. J. He used details brought back by numerous voyagers to compile information on the entire region. The shape of the Arabian Peninsula, including the whole of Arabia, is far more accurate than of earlier maps. Julfaf (now called Ras al Khaimah) is indicated for the first time. The arrowhead-shaped Qatar peninsula, called catura, can be clearly distinguished. It is located in the midst of an oyster-bed represented by small pearl-dots. Show moreThis is a highly decorative map of the southwestern coast of Africa with early color. The scale is in German miles and Spanish leagues. There are coastal views of the islands of Ascension and St. Helena within a strap work cartouche at the bottom of the map and two compass roses. The title cartouche is decorated with birds, fruit and scroll-work, the sea is decorated with ships and a sea-creature, and the land is decorated with animals and mythical creatures. Also this map covers the western coast of Africa from the Gulf of Guinea to just beyond the Cape of Good Hope with excellent detail along the coastline. This map superbly engraved in the Flemish style by Florent van Langren, and the first Dutch edition of Linschoten's "Itinerario..." was published by Cornelis Claesz in 1596. Show moreThis Detailed map example of the Turkish Empire at its height including territories in Balkans, Anatolia, Levant, North Africa, Extends from Sicily and Italy in the West to the Black & Caspian Seas in the North and the Gulf of Aden, Red Sea and Saudi Arabia peninsula in the South and centered on Cyprus. Willem Janszoon started the map publishing business of the Blaeu family in Amsterdam in 1599. With the Mercator plates he acquired, he published Atlantis Appendix in 1630 and Theatrum Orbis Terrarum in 1635. After his death, his son Joan Blaeu (1596 - 1673) published the Atlas Major which they have been working on. This Atlas is considered the most magnificent work of its kind. Relief shown pictorially.
