The two men standing behind are described as wakils (representatives). The photograph was probably taken in Jeddah between 1884 and 1885. The men are photographed in a courtyard-like space with plants – some in wide wooden pots – foliage and a window, fronted by bars, visible in the background. The negative had handwork applied. They are described as the son of the sultan - Prince Nur, as per Snouck Hurgronje's notes in his papers held at the Leiden Library -, his uncle and an imam. The men face forward, looking towards the camera. The photograph was probably taken by Snouck Hurgronje in Jeddah between 1884 and 1885.
