First edition of Alban Thorer's (Albanus Torinus) paraphrase of books I-IV of Serapion's Therapeutica methodi, the remainder in the translation of Gerard of Cremona, with the Aphorisms published for the first time. Serapion the elder was a Christian physician who flourished in Damascus in the second half of the ninth century. He wrote, in Syriac, two medical compilations, one in 12, the other (as here) in 7 books. The latter was several times translated into Arabic, and thence into Latin by Gerard of Cremona. First edition of this commentary (with the text) of Hippocrates' work on insomnia, and on selected passages from the al-Taysir of Abu Marwan ibn Zuhr. Abu Marwan's text is presented in the form of 125 "sentences," adapted from the larger work, followed by commentary. The index of diseases is divided into ailments of the head, throat, stomach, uterus, skin, and also fevers. Giovanni Colle's main claim to fame is to have published the first definite description of a blood transfusion in Methodus facile parandi incunda tuta et nova medicamenta, Venice, 1628 (Garrison-Morton 2011). Bartelemi Trot was a Croat publisher living in Lyons. He mainly worked on pirated editions of the Aldine classics.
