Show moreMiniature depicting a moment of royal entertainment: two mounted men - one of the riders is actually falling - control the elephants, as they fight before an audience. Servants hold fireworks on poles, prepared to help direct the elephant if necessary. Emperor Jahangir (r.1605–27) overlooks the scene from the balcony at Agra Fort. Title and date devised by Library staff. The miniature is laid down on gold speckled pink card between gold and polychrome borders. Inscription signature on the margin below "جهانگیر عمل مرکلان [...]". On the verso of the cardboard two erased stamps. On the verso of an additional cardboard now removed manuscript note "Jahangir contemplant un combat d'éléphant du fort d'Âgrâ. École Moghole.
