    <note>Alcabitius. Libellus isagogicus ... ad magisterium judicorum astrorum interpretatus a Joanne Hispalensi scriptumque in eiusdem a Joanne Saxonie editum utile serie connexum incipiut. Venice, Melchior Sessa, 1512.  Small 4to, 1l + 142 + 1 lea.. with woodcut astronomical diagram on title and printer&apos;s device, woodcut diagrams and horoscopes in text, printer&apos;s device at colophon, woodcut initials; ownership inscription partially erased from foot of title, single wormhole in outer margin towards the end, soem damp-staining in the lower half; a good copy in contemporary limp vellum; seventeenth-century inscription on fly leaf referring to Welsch&apos;s comments on Alcabitius.  Abu I-Saqr al-Qabisi&apos;s tenth-century text al-Mudkhal, &apos;Introduction to the Art of Astrology&apos;, as translated to Latin in the twelfth century by Johannes Hispalensis, commented upon in the fourteenth century by Johannes Sexonius, and printed in Venice at the beginning of the sixteenth century. &quot;The book, as the title indicates, is an introductory exposition of some of the fundamental principles of genethlialogy; its present usefulness lies primarily in its quotations from the Sassanian Andarzghar literature and from al-Kindi the Indians, Ptolemy, Dorotheus of Sidon, Masha&apos;allah, Hermes Trismegistus, and Valens&quot;(DSB).
