    <note type="biographical/historical">The Abdullah Fréres studio opened in Istanbul in 1856. The Armenian brothers became official royal photographers in 1863 and in 1866, at the invitation of the Khedive of Egypt, they opened a branch in Cairo that was closed in 1895. At the end of 1900 they sold the Istanbul studio to Sébah and Joaillier. See</note>
