Item. Lithographic print showing objects and utensils commonly used in Mecca, such as baskets, brushes, covers fans, but also sandals, hats, tables, lecterns, and bags. The items are drawn from the collection of Snouck Hugronje. No Known Copyright Title and date from item. Plate 38 in Bilder-Atlas zu Mekka (Haag : Martinus Nijhoff, 1888-1889). The plate is numbered (XXXVIII). The image is printed onto a 2-pages folded sheet featuring two plates. Printed beneath image, in ink: in lower right corner: ‘ex. coll. auct.’ (ex collectione auctoris, [drawn] from the collection of the author) and in the lower left corner: ‘P.W.M. Trap exc.’ (Pieter Willem Marinus Trap excudit, Pieter Willem Marinus Trap engraved). The objects are itemized in the list of plates at the beginning of the volume. Each object is identified by a number, which refers to elements in this list, that is: 1. Zèmbîl (Marktkörbchen); 2. Mèknasah (Teppichbesen aus Palmblättern); 3.Mekabbah (Deckel für Schüsseln oder Teller, die, mit Speisen gefüllt, von Haus zu Haus oder in die Moschee getragen werden); 4. Quffah (Körbchen zum Mitnehmen von Speisen); 5., 5a. Mèrwahah (aus Palmblattstrifen geflochtener Fächer); 6. Qubqâb (hölzerner Stelzschuh, in dieser Form von Weibern getragen); 7.Madâs mèkkâwî (mekkanische Sandale); 8. Madâs mèdènî (medinensische Sandale; nicht weniger als die vorhergehende Form in Mekka getragen); 9., 10. Kursî's (Tischchen zum Daraufstellen grosser metallener Teller mit Speisen); 11., 12. Rahl's (Lesepulte, resp. aus Holz und aus Palmblattstielen; vorzüglich zu Uebungen im Qurânrecitieren gebraucht); 13. Qalaç (lederne Mäklertasche zum Aufnehmen kleiner, dem Dèllâl zum Verkauf übergebener Gegenstände).
