"Nature notes" includes lists of birds and plants collected. The book is Angus Buchanans account of the conquest of German East Africa during the First World War 1914-1918. Buchanan was a Captain who marched a unit over 850 miles, covering territories around Kilimanjaro, Lake Victoria, the Belgian Congo, and the Lindi area. The book is an account of Buchanans experiences of the campaign, which was conducted in conditions of extreme heat and drought, and through inhospitable territories of high grass and jungle with only bare rations of flour and water. Buchanan describes the threats that his unit encountered, including animals, enemies, illness, and the effects of being wounded. Taking the form of diary entries, Buchanans account provides an insight into the daily lives of troops stationed at various points along the frontier. The book closes with a chapter of nature observations, which describes the flora, and fauna of a virtually unexplored world Main Heritage Shelves General D576.G3 B83 1919 Book Item-ID: i20449999 BIB-ID: 1830496 Show less
