Show moreThis map western Asia dating from early 19th century with an elegant cartouche (in the form of camel draped in red velvet) shows the southern cost of the gulf as an almost straight line. The coast is broken only by the mouth of large river called Aftan, level with the island of Bahrain. The source of the river shown as being in the middle of Arabia is not far from Dreiye (Dirriyah, now in Saudi Arabia). Although the peninsula and the name Qatar are not shown, for the first time the city of Zabara (Zubarah) is indicated east of the mouth of the river, this town, a trading port, was one of the pearls fishing centers where European ships called in. Par P. Lapie Géographe, 1809. Gravé par Chamouin Rue de la Harpe N°35. Ecrit par Giraldon. Published in: "Précis de la géographie universelle" in 1810 by Malte-Brun.
