Show moreA voyage to Barbary, for the redemption of captives [by J.B. de La Faye] -- Appendix. Being the history, ancient and modern, of Oran and Al-Marsa [by John Morgan?] -- Journal of the Spaniards proceedings in their late conquests of Oran and Al-Marsa. Englished from the French originals: with some useful annotations. [M. l'Abbe Boulet]. First ed. pub. in 1735 under title: A voyage to Barbary, for the redemption of captives. According to the Bodleian Library record, this is a translation by Joseph Morgan of Philémon de la Motte's 'Voyage pour la redemption des captifs aux royaumes d'Alger et de Tunis', which was first published in English in the same year as 'Voyage to Algiers and Tunis, for the redemption of captives'. However, other libraries attribute the work to Jean de La Faye. Title page in red and black. Errata appears at end of contents. Woodcut head- and tail-pieces and initial letters. "A map of the kingdoms &c. of Barbary, J. Mynde sc." facing title page; "A chart of the sea coast from Cape Cautin in Barbary to the Lizard Point in England" facing p. 3; "A plan of Oran and its neighbourhood wherein are comprised all its castles &c, E. Bowen sculpt." following p. 20 in appendix. Main Heritage Shelves General DT291 .L36 1736 Book Item-ID: i10176238 BIB-ID: 1019259 Includes bibliographical references.
