Show morePoster issued by the French Ministry of Youth, Arts and Letters - the ancestor of the Ministry of National Education -, in particular by the Information Services of the French Union, the political entity created by the French Fourth Republic to replace the old French colonial system and which lasted from 1946 to 1958. The poster is an informative graphic report on the industrial development of Morocco. The poster consists of 5 photographic medallions and two additional photographs on a stylized Islamic geometric pattern. Images captioned include a modern bridge on the Bou Regreg river near Rabat, the Im Fout Dam, phosphate mines in Khouribga, a tractor, a canning factory, and a view of the coal mining industrial city of Jerada. Title from item, date devised by Library staff. Inscribed "Services d'information français - Communiqué graphique - Union française n. 4 - Ministère de la Jeunesse, des Arts et des Lettres". Inscribed at the bottom right corner "D.L. 1230 B". Text continues "Le Maroc est un pays nouveau, plein de possibilités et de promesses, en développement rapide, comme en témoignent ses magnifiques villes modernes, telles que Casablanca et Rabat. L'effort de colons français et des fellahs, un outillage agricole moderne permettront de subvenir aux besoins d'une population toujours plus nombreuse (actuellement 7 millions d'habitants). Le sous-sol offre des ressources considérables et son exploitation s'intensifie chaque jour (phosphates: 3 millions de tonnes pour 1946). À la base de l'industrialisation du Maroc, il y a le problème de l'énergie. La construction de nouveaux barrages doit d'ici 5 ans porter la production électrique à 650 millions de kwh. Le Maroc entre dans une voie nouvelle, mais les transformations respecteront les costumes et les traditions qui sont chères au pays marocain".
