Dating de Wit's map can be challenging as most of them do not include dates and the atlases were published over long periods of time. This is handsome map of the Middle East covers the regions from Turkey and Egypt to Afghanistan and the Arabian Peninsula Red Sea, Nile River, Cyprus, Asia Minor, the Gulf of Aden, Indian Ocean, Armenia, the Caspian Sea, and the Indian Ocean. Unlike most many maps of the area a great amount of geographic information is shown throughout the Arabian Peninsula including the locations of cities towns rivers and mountain ranges, the source for the detail in this map can be attributed to Sanson's map of 1654 which is widely regarded as one of the largest scaled and best detailed maps of the region until the mid-seventeenth century. The decorative title cartouche features several exotic figures animals and a merchant ship. descriptio per F. de Wit. Relief shown pictorially. "Gemeene Duytsche mylen van 15 in een graedt."
