Show moreThe album, prepared by the American public relations agengy Sessions & Caminita is a photographic account of the visit of the Crown Prince Saud of Saudi Arabia and his delegation to the United States, at the invitation of President Truman, between January and February 1947. Photographs document the Crown Prince meetings with congressmen and senators as well as his visits to various sites such as factories, schools, and universities in different states, namely the State of Washington, Kansas, Texas, and California. During this visit, Crown Prince Saud of Saudi Arabia was awarded with the Legion of Merit for the service Saudi Arabia rendered to the cause of the Allies during World War II. Title and date from item. The album has green wrappers and it is spiral bounded. Each photograph is captioned and of mounted on card, recto and verso. Typewritten text on endpaper "This photographic production designed and prepared by Sessions & Caminita Washington, D. Show moreFull-length seated portrait of three Muslim pilgrims from the Sultanate of Bacan, in the Maluku Islands, in modern day Indonesia. They are described as the son of the sultan - Prince Nur, as per Snouck Hurgronje's notes in his papers held at the Leiden Library -, his uncle and an imam. The men face forward, looking towards the camera. The photograph was probably taken by Snouck Hurgronje in Jeddah between 1884 and 1885. The men are photographed in a courtyard-like space with plants – some in wide wooden pots – foliage and a window, fronted by bars, visible in the background. The negative had handwork applied. Title and date from item. Plate no. 31 in Bilder-Atlas zu Mekka (Haag : Martinus Nijhoff, 1888-1889). The plate is numbered (XXXI) and titled in German under the image.
