Show morePortait of Faisal bin Hussein, the commander of the Arab Northern Army during the Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire. He spent most of the war in Hejaz and he enjoyed a particularly close relationship with T. E. Lawrence, as described in Seven Pillars of Wisdom. The Berkshire RHA was a Territorial Force Royal Horse Artillery battery that was formed in Berkshire in 1908. It saw active service during the World War I in the Middle East, notably at Aden and in particular in the Sinai and Palestine Campaign, from 1915 to 1918. Soon after obtaining her degree in 1898 she travelled many times in Middle East and the Arabian Peninsula and published her account of those experiences in numerous books. After the eruption of World War I, she was recruited by British Intelligence; her political connections and the trust she had earned among the Arabs played a decisive role in the success of the Arab Revolt.
