The poster is a work by the famous Turkish graphic artist İhap Hulusi Görey, best known for his illustrations on posters and labels of several Turkish brands in the Republican era. Born and raised in Cairo, he also designed at least six different posters promoting travel to Egypt. The poster is a graphic composition depicting modern buildings along the Nile Corniche in Cairo. On the foreground some boats and a statue of Ramesses II and in the distance the outlines of the Mosque of Muhammad Ali. Title from item, date devised. Show moreThe photograph, taken from the sea, actually shows the Beit al Ajaib (House of Wonders), built in 1883 and restored after the Anglo-Zanzibar War of 1896. The house was primarily the Sultan's residence and was the first building in Zanzibar to have electricity, as well as the first building in East Africa to have a lift. The Sultan's Palace (also known as "Beit el-Sahel"), was another palace that housed the royal family built in the late 19th century and it is to the left of the main building depicted in the picture.
