Circular world map with Jersusalem at the center, based on a portolan chart by Pietro Vesconte which originally appeared in the Liber secretorum fidelium crucis super Terrae Sanctae recuperatione et conservatione, by Marino Sanudo. [World Sphere]. Map of the world placing Jerusalem, the centre and showing three continents namely; Europe, Asia and Africa. The map is roughly made and this is probably due to limited knowledge of the area. For example Africa is drawn like a shoe, there is much exageration at the south. Arabia is represented in rectangular shape, with Mecca as the centre of Arabian peninsula, two other towns are marked as Cede port (part of Jeddah) and St Catarina, this is placed not very far from Jeddah. There are lines from south, north, west and east making point of inter-section at Jerusalem. Size: 34 x 34.40 cm. Published in 1611. Coloured. Latin. From: Gesta Dei per Francos ...
