Early edition of the authoritative Latin translation of Galen's treatises on the classification and causation of diseases and symptoms by Wilhelm Copp (1460-1532). The Arabs held Galen in highest regard. Hunayn ibn Ishaq's translation (ca. 830-870) of 129 of Galen's works into Arabic, in particular Galen's insistence on a rational systematic approach to medicine, set the template for Islamic medicine, which rapidly spread throughout the Arab Empire. - With the owner's inscription of "Joannem Antonium Allemand. Sedenenus" dated 1760. Some foxing and thumbing and some annotations and underscoring in text. Binding slightly rubbed, spine chipped, and lacking first endleaf. Good copy.
