Show moreTravel poster issued by the Egyptian Tourist Office in Cairo advertising Egypt as a tourist destination. The poster shows a negative of the Great Sphinx edited with blue lines. The poster was issued when Egypt was part of the United Arab Republic (U.A.R.), the political union between Egypt and Syria which lasted from 1958 until 1961. "Son et lumière", in English "sound-and-light show" was a nighttime entertainment conceived by Paul Robert-Houdin, curator of the Château de Chambord on the Cosson River, France, where the first one was presented in 1952. Multicoloured lights of changing intensity were directed against the facade of a historic building or ruin. The changes of light are synchronized with a sound track (relayed through loudspeakers) carrying music and the dramatized story of the site. Usually, no live participants appear. The first African production took place at Cairo, Egypt, at the Pyramids of Giza, in 1961. Title and date from item. Iscribed: "Issued by the Tourist Administration Office - Cairo".
