On the spine, the title in French and the name on the photographer in gold letter and on the back cover, the star of Morocco. On the cover page, the album has a long dedication in Arabic signed by Sultan Muḥammad V (r. 1927-1957) to Lucien Saint, the French Resident-General in Morocco from 1929 to 1933. The dedication is translated into French on a separate piece of paper dated 11 November 1930. The album has a presentation page titled in French (print) "Le jeune Prince Sidi Mohammed aux courses de Casablanca en 1926" - "The young Prince Sīdī Muḥammad at the race track in Casablanca in 1926" - with a photograph, and the name of the album recipient, Lucien Saint (manuscript). Show morePhotograph album of the French diplomat and Orientalist Jean Béguin-Billecocq, consul of France in Muscat between 1904 and 1905, under the reign of Faisal bin Turki (1864-1913), Sultan of Muscat and Oman from 1888 to 1913. Many photographs of the album were probably taken by the wife of the consul, Louise Béguin-Billecocq. The album contains views of Muscat, including the Southern walls of the city, the cemetery, watchtowers in the Southeastern part of the city, the Sultan's stables, Fort Al-Mirani, Sidab Gate, the wells, the tower of the wells, Rue du Consulat, Bab al-Kabir, Bab Al Saghir, Al Jilali Fort, the harbor, dhows and huts, the view of a mosque as well as the garden, a room and the patio of the French consulate. Also, there are pictures of the pass leading to Sidab, of a river on the road to Bilad, of the bays of Kalbuh and Riyam, of the village of Sur, of a dried wadi (river), of the village of Tuyan and of various people such as the Sultan’s watercarriers, a muezzin, the consul with his bodyguards, his chef, the Wali of Sur, caravanners, the consulate’s sailors, and the Sheikhs of Sur under the protection of the French government (dhow shippers who were granted the military protection of France on the ground of the French-Omani treaty of 1844).
