Shown in the images are the Gezirah Palace, the Great Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha, Muhammad Ali of Egypt (r. 1805-1848), Ibrahim Pasha of Egypt (r. 1848), a plate illustrating Ibrahim's camp at Jaffa in 1832, Abbas I of Egypt (r. 1848-1854), Ibrahim Ilhami Pasha (d. 1860) and Abbas II of Egypt (r. 1892-1914). Show moreMost of the photographs are pictures of an album related to Prince Muhammad Ali of Egypt (r. 1805-1848) Manial Palace. The album was part of the collection of Dr. Branch's and photographs were probably taken by Carl Raswan. Dr. Branch was a Scottish Veterinarian, contemporary of Lady Anne Blunt (1837-1917), who was running the Royal Agricultural Society; created In 1908 by the government of Egypt, the institution was intended to preserve the Egyptian Arabian horse. Carl Raswan, instead, was one of the greatest scholars of Arabian bloodlines. He authored numerous books on Arabian horses and the Bedouin people who raised them, but he is especially renowned for Raswan Index, an extensive compilation of Arabian horse pedigree and strain information.
