The first one is described as Muhammad 'Abd al-'Aziz, son of Amir Awn al Rafiq - Grand Sharif of Mecca between 1882 and 1905 - and three of his nephews. The photographs were probably taken in Mecca in 1885. The child in the bottom-left picture can be identified - as per Snouck Hurgronje Papers at the Leiden University Libraries - as Abdullah bin Al-Hussein, later King of Jordan. The doctor - who is likely to be the Meccan physician and photographer al-Sayyid ʻAbd al-Ghaffar (active in 1880s) - and his son hold an umbrella and sit on a wooden chair, while the sayyid - identified as Abd al-Qadir al-Shaybi - holds a misbaha (prayer beads) and is posing on an upholstered seat with bolster cushions on either side of him. The two Banu Shaybah boys - identified as the sons of Abd al-Qadir al-Shaybi - stand side-by-side with matching robes embroidered at the lapels.
